The MW reporter planned to go to Sindu in Sanur to get a tattoo but instead ran into the 4-star and the Legend for this edition. Not to waste any time, out came the notebook and pen and he interviewed them both…that is killing two birds with one stone plus food (haha…-ed)

Gus Mango mengawali perjalanan surfingnya di tahun 1979. Saat itu dia masih duduk dibangku SMP. “Awalnya ya cuma anak nelayan biasa yang suka main di pantai, sampai akhirnya nonton film layar tancap yang isinya tentang surfing. Dari situ saya mulai tertarik sama surfing. Kelihatannya seru banget.” Pada saat itu, board masih sangat langka.

Surfing jaman sekarang sudah amat sangat maju dibandingkan jaman dulu. Jaman dulu, jangankan surf board, perahu pun susah didapat.

When we interviewed Pak Yasa, MW got the impression of an enthusiastic and steadfast character who also was one of the founders of the BSA (Bali Surfing Association ). He gave us some of his time to share his impressions of surfing, the sport that still has a place in his heart to this day.

There are legend surfers in every area and Sanur surfers are very lucky to have the legend surfer Gachon.
 
For many local Sanur surfers Gacho is the epitome of a legend..he is one of the first generation of successful surfers in Sanur and he is still a role model for the Sanur grommets.

I started surfing around 1972 - 1973

Like many of the legend surfers whose careers started from their activities on the beach Dira was a drink seller on Legian Beach when he first saw people surfing. The tourists seemed to be having so much fun he really wanted to try it as well. He eventually summoned the courage to borrow a board and learned to surf with his friend Wayan Elog in 1973.
