Jendri, going to be an Idol

Singing is not a new thing for I Wayan Gede Jendri. Before he was a contestant on Indonesian Idol he was part of a band when he was in high school. Unfortunately the band, called ANTZ, was forced to break up when they graduated from high school.

Not many people knew that Jendri, who has been surfing since he was 10 years old, had such a golden voice until at an Odysseys Surf school (where he works) event he got up and sang. “I was so nervous but because I really missed singing I got some confidence” he said shyly. Everyone was surprised but also impressed to hear him sing and from that time he was confident to start singing again.

If Indonesian Idol holds auditions in Bali again Jendri has decided to try again. “I auditioned the first time at The Wave. I was so nervous but I prayed and did my best and managed to get through to Jakarta” he explained. So many experiences and new friends in Jakarta because they loved his surfer style. But nothing is guaranteed. His favourite board went with him for encouragement.

 “Lots of the contestants admired my style but the most impressive was Titi DJ, one of the judges who said I was the first surfer on Indonesian Idol” he said.
Eventually he was eliminated and did not become a finalist but he is proud of his achievement reaching the top 60 out of 120,000 contestants. “If there is still a chance next year I want to audition again and maybe I can go further next time” he said.
