Thanks to his friend for persuading him, this Balinese-Dutch (according to Duncan - ed) surfer finally agreed to meet and chat with us. Even though at the beginning when we asked him questions he kept answering with his password “apa men?” (Balinese accent mode: on*-ed) the question/answer session was successful (^^,), well guys….here is the story of a surfer who looks like the husband of movie star Titi Kamal.….

 

While he was trying to remember things from the past he was arguing with Duncan (Akung’s lifelong best friend - ed) about whether they went straight to surfing or tried body boarding first. Finally they agreed that they had started with body boarding before they tried surfing. Back then they used to rent a board for Rp.100,000 and share it between 7 friends (what!!!-ed), but his growing enthusiasm made Akung miss a lot of school to go surfing.

 

He enjoys free surfing and playing x-box and says “It’s better to be a free surfer, no competition, just fun…fun…and fun surf” He has been on the ISC tour but enjoys free surfing better without any pressure.

 

Akung is also a talented entrepreneur. With a background as a sales assiatant at Electroshell and an interest in ‘out there’ clothing he became involved in the world of design and developed his own label ‘Blazed’. He confidently said he had done everything himself from design to distribution until Duncan protested that he had also helped with the promotion (okay..- ed), Blazed can be found at Motion and Electroshell and some stores in Australia.

 

How can it be …a surfer and entrepeneur still single? Briefly, his only criteria for a girlfriend is ……”Hot” …. But when pressed further he said ”I like mixed Balinese/Western girls but I like Balinese girls as well hehehe..as long as they are ‘simple’ and not glamourous.”

 

Akung is skilled at playing both guitar and drums and never gets bored of listening to the music of Bob Marley. He gives us a picture of himself below:
