I started surfing around 1972 - 1973

Legian beach break, Serangan beach
 
Who do you usually surf with?
I usually take the guests from my homestay surfing.
 
Why were you interested in surfing ?
The first time I really enjoyed seeing people dance on the waves.
 
What contests have you been in? Which was the most impressive?
Local contests, OM Bali Pro AM 1980 and the last one was the BSA All Bali Open 2002. The most impressive was the OM Bali Pro AM 1980
 
Your worst surfing experience ? Worst wipe out?
No bad experiences, surfing is a sport that makes me happy…worst wipe out was at Uluwatu ‘race track’.
 
Where would you like to travel to?
I haven’t travelled since 1999 because I have to look after my homestay and also my mother who is old now.
 
Any funny experiences while surfing ?
Funny experiences while surfing , yaahh…but the bottom line is that when I’m surfing all my problems disappear.
 
Your favourite music genre ?
Classic, jazz, rock, blues, Balinese songs, gamelan, pop Indo and others.
 
Do you like clubbing ? Where do you go ?
I don’t like clubbing…just dinner.
 
How many boards have you broken since you’ve been surfing ? hehe
I’ve never broken a board but my legrope has snapped many times, so I am very economical with boards !
 
Who taught you to surf?
Nobody, I taught myself.
 
What is the biggest difference between surfing back then and surfing now ?
I think surfing before was pure pleasure, and now there is more professional competition.
 
What are your hopes for surfing in Indonesia ?
Hopefully more Indonesians will enjoy surfing for their health or as their profession because we live in the islands of Indonesia and there are so many places to surf.
