Made Awan

Made Awan is a potential Indonesian pro surfer. He is nice and friendly and also funny. He started surfing after watching his brother surf near their home on Serangan. He started learning to surf with his uncle when he was 10 years old. After a few years of intensive surfing Made was ready to compete. His first contest was at Sanur Festival. He lost in his first two contests but he didn’t give up. In his third contest at Padang Galak he got 4th place.

Because of his perseverance with his training he won first place at the Volcom grommet contest at Padang Galak in 2000. Since then Awan, who also likes playing traditional Balinese music, has won many different contests. He also had the chance to go on surfing trips to Japan in 2006 and 2007. The contest that has left the biggest impression was the Rusty pro contest at Sanur in February this year when he won first place.

He was injured in a contest once at Padang Padang in 2007 he sprained his ankle. His worst injury was from a wipeout at Sanur when his face and leg were cut badly.

Awan has a restaurant at Serangan called Awana and he also enjoys wind surfing especially if there are no waves at Serangan. He also sometimes works as a surf guide for Japanese surfers. Awan admires Gobleg, Mangku, Kasim and Mick Fanning. When he’s not surfing he says “Yeah if I’m not surfing I am at home helping my family and hang out”
