Steve Marlon

Name: Steve Marlon
Dob: March 13th 1992
Board Size: 5’11, 6’1
Stance: Goofy
Home Break: Lembeng
We’ve met this guy a few times at the beach and partying and one day we caught him at home, drinking a glass of water, a bottle of iced tea and a plate of instant noodles. He instantly made us feel at home. He travels between Makasar & Bali and is currently resident at Lembeng Beach. Steve’s house is right on the beach (just have to cross the road – Ed).
Living with his Dad who is an artist gave this ‘only child’ the freedom to decide to leave school and focus on surfing. One of the rooms in his house looks like an art gallery. There are lots of recycled items as well as new items used in a different way. For example: a toilet used as a chair, a chemical bottle used as a lamp. But his Dad’s main talent is music and apart from playing all instruments he also makes instruments such as guitars and bass, acoustic and electric. Unusually, Steve hasn’t inherited his father’s musical talent at all. Luckily his surfing talent has emerged and this mixed German-Manado guy surfs all day, every day. (wowww..-Ed)
“One day I went with my Dad to a private music lesson in Petitenget and his student was a foreign surfer girl. I saw her surfboard and asked how she used it. She showed me how at Petitenget Beach. After that I tried by myself with her board and I am still surfing now.” said Steve, who is a big fan of Ozzy Wright, Garut and Marlon Gerber, about his introduction to surfing. He said he almost gave up because he couldn’t ‘get it’ but finally he got his balance and caught a wave for the first time and that gave him the motivation to continue, “I was so happy the first time I could balance, I felt like a real surfer, hehehe…”
Apart from surfing he also likes skateboarding. Although there are lots of skate parks now Steve is happier to call himself a surfer than a skater because he says “I feel more confident to call myself a surfer because more girls like surfers than skaters, hahaha…”. This gives you an idea of a typical day in Steve’s life:
Get up at 6am and listen to music
Wait for kak Ulli
Surfing
12 midday go home to eat and sleep
Get up and check the waves, if they are good surf again
6pm go home, shower and get ready to party
Before MW left Steve gave us a note for MW readers… “for any girls interested in me, call me. I’m waiting…hehehe…ready 24 hours!!”
Well dude…thanks for your time..c u at the next party. Text: Bee; photo: Carel & Kopi
