Surf

Dhanu has been learning to surf for a year and is already showing his natural talent. He gets full support from his father who always wanted to be a surfer himself, but his mother wouldn’t let him. Now her grandson Dhanu is surfing she is still against it, “don’t surf, you’ll get dark skin and you could drown…!” This time Dhanu’s parents support him and even though his grandmother forbids him to surf he keeps surfing hehehehe..”I’m a good son and I am obliged to fulfill my father’s obsession for me to be a surfer. If I have a son one day he will have to be a great surfer too, hehehe..”

His father took him to Dedik at Double D surf school to learn how to surf and fill in his spare time productively. After a while he was surfing every day and all weekend. There aren’t any surfers his age in Seminyak so he often chats with the older surfers at the beach. He idolizes Taj Burrow and wants to be a free surfer because..” I’m not going to be a pro surfer, because I’m not a great surfer..hehe” he said.

 

 School

Dhanu is in year 7 at Taman Rama Mahatma Gandhi School. He loves studying English and maths but he doesn’t like Indonesian much. He is quite clever and he also plays badminton at school. He has skipped school a few times to go surfing, “but my Dad gave me permission and it was usually at the end of the semester after exams were finished.” he explained.

 

 Interests

Apart from surfing, after school and on weekends (..his school is off both Saturday & Sunday – Ed) Dhanu likes watching cooking shows on tv and a show called Opera Van Java. He enjoys updating his Facebook page, using Skype and watching surfing videos on youtube. Though he is still young he plays the guitar really well. He’s been having lessons since he was in year 6 and has formed a rock band called ‘Navigator’ with some of his friends from school and they play AVA songs.

 

Goals

Yeaaaahh…I used to want to be a veterinarian, but now I want to be a surfer….
