Lifeguards Swim Training 2008

The Bali Lifeguards over the years have been patrolling Kuta beach with not a lot of extra training support to do their work . They now have 15 lifeguard stations spread along the beaches around Bali and in some other areas there is no patrols. The lifeguard works long hours on the beach in the hot wether conditions and are required to be at peak fitness in case of that water rescue emergency. With the increase of tourism and expat business development in Indonesia there is increasing demand for these Lifeguards who patrol the beaches to keep a safe water environment at a higher standard than before.
Safety at the beach is on a lot of tourist families and local people’s minds when swimming though as statistics may show there is always some people having problems in the ocean and has proven to stretch the lifeguards resource’s in man power and equipment. In recent years small assisting water safety groups from abroad like for example, (Australian lifeguard groups) have supported the Bali Lifeguards cause.
YCR Swim & Surf Charity Program coordinator has made time to support the Bali lifeguards by having swimming training days once a week at the AJ Hakett Bungy pool during the month of September. By giving support for training, swim coach Glenn said that in all sport skills need practise to maintain a high level of ability. He also said that the Lifeguards role at the beach is the first contact people in case of first aid rescue and tourist should respect their position and support in anyway they can.
Made Supatra has welcomed the extra training days for his team of Lifeguards and appreciated all support from Australian Aquatic support teams who visit Bali. Made showed good leader ship by participating in the first YCR Swim & Surf activity day. Made thinks that if more support can come from Indonesian and Australian Government groups it would increase better water safety on the beaches in Bali.
