Surfing just for Fun..!!!

 

This Balinese girl held up MW for an interview about her intense surfing activity and experience in the world of surfing. Here is our interview with her…

When did you first go surfing and why were you interested?

I started surfing in 2004 so about 5 years ago. Why..I don’t know where the urge came from.  I liked to watch people surfing…then I wanted to try..

What did you do the first time you tried surfing?

Because I didn’t have a board I rented one from one of the guys on the beach. I really wanted to try so I learned by myself, nobody taught me. But I could only surf a few times a week because I was busy with college, doing tourism management.

So how long did it take before you could surf?

Two months. About two months…two years..I could stand up on the board. I didn’t surf much, not every day…

Any cool surfing experiences?

The coolest thing is surfing. Yeah and that time I was surfing and I took a wave and my head hit the board…it really hurt… there was a pro surfer surfing at the same time. That’s made me a lot more careful when there are a lot of people surfing.

Have you been in any contests ?

I’ve been in the Putri Ombak and Surfer Girl contests but I didn’t win. I don’t really have a competitive spirit…happy for someone else to win….

What do you do apart from surfing..?

I am a surf tour guide but just for surfing points in Bali. I also teach surfing freelance and I’m the secretary at Putri Ombak…

Do you like being a surf tour guide..?

Yeah I really like it when we are on the road but there aren’t always people looking for tours. I also work as a money changer usually Euros and US dollars, I just need my handphone and connections with friends.

Tell us about traveling…you said one of your hobbies was traveling..?

I have been to Portugal, Italy, France and Holland. I got to surf in Portugal and Italy but in Holland and France I just holidayed with my boyfriend…I also got to see my favourite artist Avril Lavigne perform live in Austria in August 2008..it was sooo cool…

Do you have a message for the girls of  Bali ?

For the girls…don’t be scared to try surfing just because you don’t want dark skin..hehehe dark skin is sweet…also don’t say you can’t try surfing because you can’t swim…you’ll regret it if you don’t surf because surfing is so much fun…

What yeah….drink water, safe surfing, keep the beach clean and don’t forget to brush your teeth before bed……oops one more…pray for me that my plan to get married next year happens....hehehe
